History of the Ampersand

Did you know… the ampersand "&" symbol originated from the Latin word "et," which means "and."

Over time, the two letters e and t were combined into the shape of the ampersand we now know and love.

Some believe the name, Ampersand, originated when 19th century French physicist and mathematician André-Marie Ampère began using the symbol in his publications.

Theories and history aside, it is simply one of the most beautiful characters in the Roman alphabet.

Fun fact: an ampersand is technically a logogram, which is a character used to represent a word or phrase 💡
