O Canada

Is it weird to talk about Canadian logo design on 4th of July?

Maybe, but the modernist design movement that swept 1960s Canada is just THAT good.

If you dare to look beyond Swiss aesthetics and American modernist corporate visuals, you'll crash into Canada's vibrant scene of modernist graphic design.

Some of these designs are truly just so so good. Here are a few of my favorites.

If you are interested in modernist logo design, I highly recommend the documentary Design Canada.

The 2018 film shines the light on Canada's design scene. From the swinging 60s to today, showing how unforgettable logos and sleek designs have carved Canada's cultural footprint. It's a visual feast proving designs aren't just pretty - they tell the story of a culture.

Nike Bird

Not only is this a brilliant concept, but the 3D work is immaculate. This piece from Soft Power was part of a Nike ZoomX Streakly launch campaign.

This asset specifically was used to tell the story of the performance of the shoe as being both lightweight and responsive.

If you are not using Are.na when you are concepting + world building you are simply not finding the best references.

It’s just that good. I have been using a free account for literal years and recommend it to every professional or aspiring creative I can.

So what is Are.na?
In short, Are.na is a social community and creative research platform.
