Iconic Photography, a Gorgeous Rebrand, and a Legendary Designer

Iconic Photography of Walter Iooss Jr.

Some of the most iconic moments in sports photography all point back to one man. Walter Iooss Jr. His striking images display uncanny use of framing, color, and perspective.

Photographs that are more than just snapshots of events or moments in time; they encapsulate the spirit of sportsmanship and offer an artful look into the experiences of the athletes.

Hyde Park Picture House Rebrand

One of my favorite rebrands of 2023 was done for Hyde Park Picture House.

It all starts with the oval-shaped frame, which is the perfect foundation for the design system, referencing vintage cinema and 35mm film reels.

Basis Grotesque was chosen for the primary typeface as it is both highly legible and has the informal and friendly feel of indie film.

Lastly, the updated color palette starts with an eye-catching bright yellow and flows into a full Technicolor palette for genre-specific storytelling.

All of these elements work together to bring an updated, yet timeless look to the 100 year old film house.

Designer You Should Know - Susan Kare

Easily one of the most influential designers in modern history, Susan Kare's work in the early 1980s is still shaping the visual language of technology.

While working at Apple she designed the original icon set for the Macintosh, their now iconic script lettering, as well as the Chicago typeface.

Susan designed a series of icons that were both intuitive and memorable helped make these original interfaces more approachable and ultimately more usable.
